I am a Minneapolis based painter and visual artist who grew up in SE Minnesota. I had always been interested in drawing growing up, but it wasn't until I was studying pharmacy at South Dakota State University that I discovered my love for painting, where by an off chance, I elected to take an oil painting class.
Over the past few years, painting has shifted from a hobby to my primary pursuit as I began exploring a variety of different mediums and styles, and the desire to create just continued to grow!
While still exploring a broad spectrum of subject matter, I now primarily use oil paint (with some acrylic) to create surrealistic, psychedelic/visionary, or playful images of real life scenes. Uniquely combining a variety of techniques and styles, and drawing from both objective and subjective perspectives, I seek to evoke emotion, contemplation, and connection through my work.
Life inspires me. This life, which is so full of layers, from pure aesthetic beauty, stories, relationships and emotion to an infinite number of conceptualizations, perspectives, and connections, all wrapped so mysteriously in the profound state of simply being.
There is so much to explore! So much to share! How could I not create?
My most recent works use a combination of detailed brushwork and broad, textured strokes of a pallet knife, with whatever other spontaneous moves and stylistic flourishes present themselves in the moment, to create a unique mixture of realism and expressiveness. I continually seek to remove my mind from the process and operate from a state of timeless flow.
While my artistic career is quite young, I have participated in several prominent art fairs in Minnesota including the Stone Arch Bridge Festival, Powderhorn Art Fair, and Stillwater's Rivertown Art Festival, and have had my work displayed at numerous local establishments around the Minneapolis metro. I have also, and continue to offer commission work that consistently surpasses clients' expectation.
